Dr. Julien Chaisse is a professor at the School of Law at the City University of Hong Kong. It is a globally recognized authority at the interface between international business law (trade, investments and taxes), international dispute resolution and transnational globalization law. His scholarship, which includes a dozen books and over 60 articles and book chapters, has created a sustained presence in academia and has even been cited by international courts and US courts. In 2021 he was awarded the prestigious Smit Lowenfeld Prize of the International Arbitration Club of New York for the best published article in the field of international arbitration. As a leading scholar in the field of international business law, he sits on the editorial boards of several major international journals and is currently co-editor of the Asia Pacific Law Review. He has taught in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region for nearly 20 years, has advised and directed three dozen students, and has taught more than a dozen undergraduate and graduate courses.
He is an experienced arbitrator and has ruled on more than 20 cases (some of which have been quoted and discussed in the international press). In addition, he is often called in as an expert on arbitration issues in international arbitration or enforcement proceedings before national courts. He is a sought-after advisor / expert by international organizations, governments, law firms and private investors. Leïla Choukroune is Professor of International Law and Director of Democratic Citizenship at the University of Portsmouth. His research focuses on the interactions between international trade and investment law, human rights, development research, law and social theory. It has been used in the Global South for 20 years, particularly in India, South Asia, China and East Africa. He has published approximately 100 academic articles, book chapters, and special editions of journals in English, French, Spanish, and Chinese. She is also the author of more than 10 books, including Judging the State in International Trade and Investment Law (2016), Exploring Indian Modernities (2018), Adjudicating Businesses in India (2021), and International Economic Law (2021).
