The movement of ships was temporarily suspended due to a breakdown on a tanker carrying sunflower oil across the Bosphorus
The movement of ships through the Bosphorus Strait is temporarily suspended in both directions. This is reported by Haberler with reference to the Main Directorate of the Turkish Coast Guard.

According to the report, on December 21, a breakdown occurred on a tanker transporting sunflower oil from north to south along the Bosphorus.
A tugboat and a high-speed rescue boat went to help the tanker. "Traffic in the strait has been suspended," the authorities said in a statement.
In June, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan opened the construction of a new Istanbul canal connecting the Black and Marmara Seas.
According to him, this will allow unloading the Bosphorus. Thus, the capacity of the strait is 25 thousand vessels per year, whereas by 2050 the number of vessels that will pass through the Bosphorus may reach 78 thousand per year, Erdogan stressed.
Moreover, the Turkish leader noted, the passage of large vessels through the Bosphorus poses a serious danger to the city, as an accident threatens to kill many people.
According to the project, the length of the new Istanbul canal will be 45 km, the minimum width is 275 m, the depth is 21 m. The project worth about $15 billion is planned to be implemented in six years.
At the end of May this year, the administration of the Bosphorus Strait suspended the movement of ships due to an accident on the oil tanker RAVA. The ship's engines failed, and it began to drift to shore. To avoid a collision, coast guard boats were sent to the tanker, which, with the help of cables, were able to stop it 300 m from the coastline.
In September, bulk carriers under the flags of Russia and Turkey collided in the Bosphorus Strait. Three boats and 14 towing vessels were sent to the collision site. As a result, no one was injured, but the ships themselves were damaged.
The Bosporus (Greek: βσσπορος, tour. Istanbul Boğazı) is a strait between Europe and Asia Minor, connecting the Black Sea with the Marmara Sea. It is the narrowest intercontinental strait in the world. Paired with the Dardanelles, it connects the Black Sea with the Aegean, which is part of the Mediterranean. The largest Turkish city of Istanbul is located on both sides of the strait.
In the theory of the Black Sea flood, it is assumed that the Bosphorus was formed about 7,600 years ago. Previously, the level of the Black and Marmara Seas was significantly lower, and they were not connected. At the end of the last ice age, as a result of the melting of large masses of ice and snow, the water level in both reservoirs rose sharply. A powerful stream of water made its way from one sea to another in just a few days — this is evidenced by the bottom relief and other signs.
