In 1993, he and his wife founded fashion and lifestyle brand Kate Spade New York and in 1999, men's brand Jack Spade. Under his leadership, 26 Kate Spade stores were opened in North America and Japan. In 2008, he established Partners & Spade, a storefront and studio on Lafayette Street in the NoHo neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. In 2013, he launched a loungewear collection, Sleepy Jones, with Anthony Sperduti and Chad Buri.
Kate Spade was known for her quirky, colorful designs that instantly brought a smile to those who loved her fashion, but privately she battled depression and anxiety for years (via Reuters). Tragically, the fashion designer died of suicide in June 2018, leaving behind her husband and business partner Andy Spade and their daughter Frances Beatrix "Bea" Spade, who is now 15 years old.
Less than six months after Kate's death, People reported that Andy and Bea had moved to the West Coast. Elyce Arons, CEO of Frances Valentine and a longtime friend of Kate, told the outlet that the couple live in California and that Andy's priority is taking care of Bea.

In August 2019, Page Six reported that Andy and Bea had moved into a new home in Oakland, California. In a poignant Instagram post, Andy shared a photo of a Christmas tree that he and Bea planted in front of their new home in the Bay Area. "Dear Katy, this tree is for you," he wrote in the caption. "Lower it and plant it outside our large window to have your magical spirit and energy close to us every day. It will bless our new home in California and radiate your essence 365 days a year."
Andy has held himself back since Kate's death, but has vowed to keep his memory alive, and he has an important message for anyone with mental health issues (via Los Angeles Times). On Kate's 57th birthday in 2019, Andy urged people to "Seek help when feeling helpless or lost" and "Ask friends and family if they are okay" for an open dialogue about mental health, respectively.
